The Restraint Series (2017)

The Restraint Series examines the persistent, mundane, and occasionally debilitating forces which restrain personal and societal growth. In this series, I explored the evocations of mark-making, emphasizing the reflective process of creating sweeping gestural strokes which become enclosed by rigid defining lines of ink. Viewers are prompted to reflect upon the barriers which restrict actualization.

The series is to be viewed started from left to right, top to bottom, with their corresponding titles Assumption, Pain, Plans, Yesterday, Dependence, Doubt, and Indecision. The paintings vary in scale, reflecting the significance of the impact of each restraint. ​
